A Sad State...

I am currently a Junior here at State, and for the most part I love this University, but there has always been one place that has stuck out like a sore thumb to me in its need for renovation. That place is Talley Student Center, and the Wolves' Den area in specific. A mixture of black walls, poorly organized spaces, broken and outdated electronics, exposed plumbing and ductwork, and plenty of other things come together to make this place a nightmare. This is our STUDENT CENTER, our STUDENT UNION. This is where people should want to come to hang out, but instead it is avoided like the plague. Type the name of any other University in the North Carolina system into Google followed by "Student Center" or "Student Union" and you will see some pretty fantastic places. Do the same for NCSU and you will be hard pressed to find even a single decent picture. With SO much money flowing into building and renovating in other places throughout the campus, it seems hard to believe that this place which as a student center should be so important has been so grossly overlooked. Whoever you may be, person reading this, please help me raise awareness in the student body and among alumni about just how bad this really is. It is embarrassingly bad. Talley and Wolves' Den should be a source of pride, not an eyesore. Look at how great the East Wing of the Library is; it has become what Talley SHOULD be, and the mass of students who occupy it day and night prove that more than my words ever could.

Check out pictures of Wolves' Den HERE. The images have been tagged in Flickr with specific issues... To advance to the next image click on the small picture to the right of the screen. I will be posting a link to a petition to the University here shortly...
